How Indian Mandis Work
Most farm produce in India is sold in regulated market yards run by Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) under state laws. Farmers bring produce to licensed commission agents, who sell it by open or electronic auction to traders, millers, processors and exporters. Many yards are linked to eNAM, the national online market. Bihar and Kerala do not have APMC laws, so their trade runs through private markets and cooperatives.
