Arunachal Pradesh, India's largest north-eastern state, grows rice on terraced and valley fields, and is known for its organic ginger, large cardamom, kiwi, Khasi-type oranges and apples in the higher districts.
Arunachal Pradesh has diverse farming, from wet rice in the Ziro valley to jhum on the slopes and orchards in the higher districts. Kiwi from Ziro and other valleys, large cardamom, ginger, oranges and apples are its main cash crops, and much of its farming is organic. The state is promoting FPOs and processing to sell its produce under organic and origin brands.
Most produce is sold through local markets and traders in towns such as Pasighat, Itanagar and Roing, with the state promoting organic and FPO-led marketing.
