Main Exports
India's biggest farm exports include basmati and non-basmati rice, spices, sugar, fresh fruits and vegetables, oilseeds and oil meals (groundnut, sesame, soymeal), cashew kernels, castor oil, guar gum, cotton and yarn, tea and coffee, and processed foods. Export promotion is led by APEDA and the commodity boards.
Main Imports
India imports large volumes of edible oil (palm, soybean and sunflower oil), pulses (tur, urad, masoor, yellow peas, chana), raw cashew from Africa, almonds and other nuts, apples and other fruits, and occasionally wheat or maize when domestic supply is short. Import duties and quotas change often to balance farmer and consumer interests.
