India's Farm Trade with Netherlands
The Netherlands is India's main gateway for table grapes and other fresh produce into Europe, and also buys onion, pomegranate and processed foods.
Main Indian Farm Products Bought by Netherlands
- GrapesIndia's grape industry is centred in Maharashtra. Table grapes are exported to Europe and the Gulf, and Sangli turns grapes into raisins.
- PomegranateIndia is the world's largest pomegranate producer, led by the deep-red Bhagwa variety grown on drylands in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
- OnionOnion is India's most politically sensitive vegetable. India is the world's second-largest grower, and its stored rabi onion supplies the country for half the year.
Ports and Logistics
Grapes go by reefer container from JNPT to Rotterdam and are then distributed across Europe. APEDA's GrapeNet ensures traceability and residue compliance for EU buyers.
How Exports Work
Exporters register with APEDA (for most farm and processed foods), the Spices Board, the Coffee or Tea Boards, or IOPEPC, depending on the product. Shipments need a phytosanitary certificate from India's plant quarantine service, a certificate of origin, and any health or residue certificates required by Netherlands. India's export policy for some crops, such as onion, rice and wheat, changes often, so exporters check the current DGFT notifications before signing contracts.
