Central Support

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana and PM-FME fund food parks, cold chains and processing units; the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund gives interest relief on post-harvest infrastructure; and production-linked incentive schemes have covered parts of food processing. 100 per cent foreign direct investment is allowed in food processing under the automatic route, subject to the rules in force.

State Industrial Development Bodies

Each state has an industrial development corporation that allots land in industrial estates and food parks. Incentive rates change often, so the last column searches the current position.

Choosing a Location

Processing plants are usually built close to the raw-material belt (see states and mandis) or close to ports for export-oriented and import-dependent units. Water, power, labour, cold-chain links and the state's market-fee and tax rules also matter.
