Farming and Trade in Tripura
Tripura is India's second-largest natural rubber producer and grows rice, pineapple (the Queen variety is GI-tagged), jackfruit and vegetables.
Tripura has turned large areas of hill land into rubber plantations, making it India's second-largest natural rubber producer, with the state corporations and the Rubber Board supporting small growers. Its Queen pineapple carries a GI tag and is sent to other states and occasionally exported. Rice is the main food crop in the valleys, and jackfruit, orange and vegetables are widely grown. Tripura's position next to Bangladesh gives it trade links through land ports.
Produce is sold through local markets and traders, with rubber marketed through the Rubber Board network and state agencies.
