Goa's farms grow rice in the lowland khazan fields, and cashew, coconut and arecanut on the slopes. Goa is famous for its cashew and for cashew feni, both of which carry GI tags.
Goa's small but distinctive farm sector grows rice in the low-lying khazan lands protected by traditional bunds, and cashew, coconut, arecanut, kokum and mango on the slopes. Goan cashew and the cashew liquor feni both hold GI tags, and many Goan cashew processors sell premium kernels to tourists and exporters. The state agricultural produce marketing board runs markets such as Mapusa and Margao.
