Maharashtra (Pune, Nashik, Satara), Karnataka (Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur), Tamil Nadu (Hosur, Kodaikanal), Himachal Pradesh (Solan, Shimla) for carnation, and Sikkim and Mizoram grow most of India's gerbera and carnation. Growers plant tissue-culture plants on raised beds inside polyhouses, with drip fertigation and climate control. Gerbera flowers year-round; carnation does best in the cool hills. Government subsidy for polyhouses under the NHB and MIDH schemes has driven the industry.

Uses and Value Chain
Gerbera and carnation are mainstays of bouquets, hotel lobbies, offices, weddings and corporate events. The rise of online flower delivery and destination weddings has made demand more year-round. Growers sell to wholesalers in Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi, through the Bangalore auction, or directly to event companies and online florists.
Quality and Grading
Gerbera is graded by flower diameter, stem length (usually 45–60 cm) and straightness; carnation by stem length and bud size. Flowers are harvested at the right stage, pre-cooled, bunched and sleeved, and sent in cartons with water tubes or dry packs.
Economics
A polyhouse is a large investment, and success depends on good planting material, disease control and steady market linkages. Government subsidy covers a substantial share of the structure cost for eligible farmers, and FPO-run collection centres help small growers reach city markets.
