About Jackfruit
Jackfruit is Kerala's state fruit and the world's largest tree-borne fruit. It is eaten ripe as a fruit and raw as a vegetable and meat substitute, and is increasingly processed into flour, chips and ready-to-cook products.
Where Jackfruit Is Grown in Kerala
The main jackfruit districts of Kerala are Ernakulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Wayanad. Kerala is India's leading producer of natural rubber and coconut, and the traditional home of the spice trade. It grows banana (including Nendran), cashew, arecanut, ginger, rice in Kuttanad and Palakkad, and has a long history of cashew processing in Kollam.
