Where Tuberose Is Grown in Andhra Pradesh

The main tuberose districts of Andhra Pradesh are Guntur, Krishna, Chittoor. Andhra Pradesh is one of India's richest farm states, with the Godavari and Krishna deltas growing rice, the dry Rayalaseema districts growing groundnut, banana, mango and tomato, and Guntur leading India's chilli and tobacco trade. Loose flowers are sold by weight and must be fresh, white and unopened. Cut spikes are graded by length and number of florets. Flowers must reach the market within hours of harvest, so growers cluster near rail lines and highways to Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Wedding seasons, Durga Puja in Bengal and other festivals push prices up; summer gluts push them down. Nematodes and bulb rot reduce yields in old fields, so growers replant every two to three years.
