About Rose
India grows roses for garlands, gulkand, rose water and attar, and long-stemmed cut roses in polyhouses for bouquets and Valentine's Day exports.
Where Rose Is Grown in Rajasthan
The main rose districts of Rajasthan are Ajmer (Pushkar). Rajasthan is India's leading producer of bajra, mustard, moth, guar, coriander, isabgol and cumin, and a major producer of moong, groundnut, barley, chana and wheat. Its dry western districts grow hardy crops on sand, while canal-fed Sri Ganganagar and Chambal-fed Hadoti are its granaries.
Season in Rajasthan
Grown year-round with peaks for festivals and weddings. Exact arrival dates in Rajasthan depend on local sowing and the monsoon, so check current arrivals before planning purchases.

Farm produce is sold through regulated APMC market yards under the state's agricultural produce marketing law, run by the state agricultural marketing board, with many yards linked to eNAM. Rajasthan's big mandis include Jaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Merta City and Sri Ganganagar.

Quality and Price Notes
Cut roses are graded by stem length (from 40 cm to over 80 cm), bud size and colour; red varieties such as Top Secret and Taj Mahal dominate Valentine's exports. Loose desi roses are sold by weight and must be fresh and fragrant. Rose petals for gulkand and distillation must be picked early in the morning.
Cut-rose prices peak in the first half of February for Valentine's Day and again in the wedding season. Desi rose prices follow festival and temple demand. Freight availability and costs to Europe decide export margins.
