Soybean crushing gives two products: soybean oil, one of India's main cooking oils, and soymeal, the main protein ingredient of Indian poultry feed.
How It Is Made
Solvent extraction plants flake the beans and extract the oil with hexane. Crude oil is refined; the de-oiled cake is toasted and ground into soymeal.
Uses and Buyers
Edible oil brands and households; poultry, cattle and fish feed makers; soymeal exporters.
Quality and Standards
Soymeal is graded by protein (often 46–48 per cent), moisture and fibre. Indian soymeal is non-GM, which some export buyers value.
Trade and Exports
Plants in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan export soymeal to Southeast Asia, Bangladesh and Europe when prices are competitive.
