About Jasmine
Jasmine is the fragrant flower of South Indian garlands and weddings, and its flowers are extracted into concrete and absolute for perfume.
Where Jasmine Is Grown in Maharashtra
The main jasmine districts of Maharashtra are Pune, Thane, Palghar. Maharashtra is India's leading producer of onion, grapes, pomegranate, banana (with Gujarat and Andhra), tur, soybean, cotton and sugarcane, and of Alphonso mango and Nagpur orange. Its mandis at Lasalgaon, Latur, Sangli, Solapur and Vashi are among the best known in India.
Season in Maharashtra
Peak March–October; scarce and costly in winter. Exact arrival dates in Maharashtra depend on local sowing and the monsoon, so check current arrivals before planning purchases.
How Jasmine Is Sold in Maharashtra
Farm produce is sold through regulated APMC market yards under the state's agricultural produce marketing law, run by the state agricultural marketing board, with many yards linked to eNAM. Maharashtra has been a leader in FPO-led marketing and in allowing direct sales outside APMC yards for fruits and vegetables.

State Agencies in Maharashtra
Jasmine has no minimum support price, so it is bought almost entirely by private traders, processors and exporters. State marketing bodies regulate the markets and support farmer producer organisations.

Quality and Price Notes
Jasmine is sold by weight early each morning in Madurai, Sathyamangalam, Bengaluru and Chennai. Buyers want tight white buds that will open in the evening; open or browned flowers are worth far less. Madurai malli prices can rise more than ten-fold between summer gluts and winter shortages, especially on festival and wedding days.
Fresh jasmine strings and buds are flown to Singapore, Malaysia, the Gulf and other countries with large Tamil and Malayali communities, packed in thermocol boxes with ice gel to survive the journey.
