Overview
Grading and testing build trust in trade. AGMARK grades farm products, FSSAI sets food standards, and export shipments need phytosanitary and quality certificates.
How It Works in Practice
AGMARK grade standards exist for grains, pulses, spices, ghee, honey and many other products, and some government purchases require AGMARK grading. FSSAI licences are needed for food businesses, and labelling rules cover ingredients, nutrition and allergens.
Rules and Support
Labs accredited by NABL and recognised by APEDA, EIC or FSSAI test residues, aflatoxin, moisture and microbiology. Organic produce is certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).
What It Means for Farmers and Traders
For organic exports, the National Programme for Organic Production accredits certification bodies, and the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS-India) covers domestic organic sales. Export shipments of plant products need a phytosanitary certificate issued online.
