Overview
Operation Greens supports the value chains of tomato, onion and potato (TOP) and, under "TOP to TOTAL", other perishable fruits and vegetables, through subsidies for storage, processing and transport.
How It Works in Practice
Under the scheme, the government has supported transport and storage costs during gluts, and funded long-term projects such as processing units, cold storage and FPO-led value chains in the main growing clusters.
Rules and Support
It is run by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
What It Means for Farmers and Traders
Its aim is to reduce the wild price swings in tomato, onion and potato that hurt both farmers and consumers, by moving produce from surplus to deficit areas and processing surpluses.
