About Sapota (Chikoo)
Sapota (chikoo) is a sweet, grainy fruit of western and southern India. The Dahanu–Gholvad belt in Maharashtra and Navsari–Valsad in Gujarat are its best-known growing areas, and Dahanu Gholvad chikoo holds a GI tag.

How It Is Grown
Sapota trees bear for decades and produce two main flushes a year. Fruit is harvested mature but hard and ripened before sale.

Graded by size and freedom from bruises; very soft once ripe.
Government Role
Sapota (Chikoo) has no minimum support price, so it is bought almost entirely by private traders, processors and exporters. Government support comes through horticulture and crop missions, market regulation, export promotion and research.
