How It Is Grown
Both are sown in winter or early spring and harvested in summer. Hybrid varieties, mulching and drip have raised yields; riverbed (diara) farming along the Ganga and Yamuna is traditional.

Graded by size, sugar content, rind condition and ripeness.
Government Role
Watermelon and Muskmelon has no minimum support price, so it is bought almost entirely by private traders, processors and exporters. Government support comes through horticulture and crop missions, market regulation, export promotion and research.
