How It Is Grown
Green capsicum is grown in the open in the cooler months and in the hills in summer. Coloured capsicum is grown in polyhouses with drip fertigation and staking, giving high yields of large, blocky fruit.

Plains: October–March; hills: May–October; polyhouse crops year-round.
Uses and Buyers
Households, restaurants, pizza and fast-food chains, hotels and export buyers in the Gulf.
Quality and Price
Graded by size, shape, colour and firmness; coloured capsicum must be glossy and blemish-free.
Government Role
Capsicum has no minimum support price, so it is bought almost entirely by private traders, processors and exporters. Government support comes through horticulture and crop missions, market regulation, export promotion and research.
